Tips Strawberry

Soil preparation

  • Strawberries prefer a light, organic-rich, and well-drained soil. Soil that is too compacted or heavy can hinder their development.
  • The ideal pH for strawberries is between 5.5 and 6.5. This helps prevent diseases and promotes good root growth.
  • Before planting, it's advisable to amend the soil with compost or well-decomposed manure to improve its fertility.

Planting

  • Plant strawberries in the spring when the soil is well-warmed, or in the fall for an early harvest the following year.
  • Space the strawberries 30 to 40 cm apart, with 70 cm between rows to allow good air circulation and avoid diseases.
  • Plant strawberries in a sunny, well-exposed area to maximize the production of sweet fruits.

Watering

  • Strawberries need regular watering, especially during blooming and fruiting. Ensure that the soil remains moist but not waterlogged.
  • Avoid watering the leaves of strawberries to prevent fungal diseases. Water directly at the base of the plants.
  • During dry periods, drip irrigation is ideal to maintain a consistent moisture level in the soil.

Fertilizer

  • Fertilize strawberries in the spring, just before the growth starts, with a potassium-rich fertilizer to encourage fruit production.
  • Use a balanced fertilizer or organic compost throughout the season to maintain healthy growth and high yields.

Harvesting

  • Harvest strawberries when they are fully red and ripe. This is when they are sweetest and most flavorful.
  • Avoid leaving overripe strawberries on the plant, as they can deteriorate quickly and attract pests.
